"Die Hanse" is the German term for the network of locations that historically belonged to, or had active trading relations with, the federation of merchant cities known as the Hanseatic League. Founded in 1980 in the Dutch town of Zwolle, the NEW HANSA has since become the world's largest voluntary association of towns and cities.
