Hanseatic Days 2020 – Just one more year to go

On Tuesday, 4 June 2019, the “Hanseatic Days 2020“ project team, headed by project leader Ute Hachmann and Mayor Dr. Christof Bartsch, welcomed many Briloners at Kolpinghaus community hall. About 300 people had accepted the invitation.

Mayor Bartsch opened the event at 7 pm together with Sarah Schleich, Brilon's 2019 Forest Fairy.

“For Brilon, the International Hanseatic Days are a major challenge and a great chance at the same time”, Dr. Bartsch explained in his opening speech. “I hope that in a year from now we can say we did a good job.”

Following that, the project manager, Ute Hachmann, illustrated what the population can expect “in a year from today”. Looking at the preliminary programme running from June 4th to June 7th, she pointed out how colourful and diverse the Hanseatic Convention is going to be.

After the start of the countdown, the guests had the opportunity to talk to those in charge of the individual schedules, thus getting more information or registering as volunteers.

Helping hands will be welcome in many places. Support is needed for lots of tasks: with twin towns, interpreting, as info guides, marshals, and contact people for sightseeing tours, or at the Hanseatic Office. It is not only a chance but an explicit wish that as many people as possible take active part in the preparation and implementation of the Brilon Hanseatic Days 2020, making sure that they turn out to be a venture of the entire Brilon population. Potential volunteers are asked to come forward in the next weeks and months to register with officials.

However, partying did not come off badly either, with DJs Henning and BlackSmith providing a good party atmosphere with their varied programme. Having concocted his “Briloner Haumeister” brandy especially for the 40th International Hanseatic Days, Thomas Fiedler from “Destille 1113” took the opportunity to introduce the drink to the guests. The municipal library presented a photobox which was met with great interest and enthusiasm. A thank you goes to Schladoth Bakery which sold their “Hansekruste” bread variety for the benefit of the Support Association for the promotion of the Hanseatic Days.
